Our crowdfunding project is to provide meals for the homeless around Klang. As the more fortunate bunch of the population, it is important that we show empathy to the less fortunate. Even if we can’t wholly change their circumstances, we can at least start by providing them a simple meal, to make their day at least a little better, and let them know that there are people who care about their well-being. Our team, consisting of 4 students from Taylor’s University, believe that it is our assignment to make a difference in society, even if it’s by a small scale of contribution.
Our plan is to distribute food to the homeless people in Klang on the 13th of January 2018, at approximately 10pm, with the help of Leo Club of Sungai Buloh, as well as Reach Out Klang. Leo Club of Sungai Buloh and Reach Out Klang have been feeding the homeless around Klang every Saturday night for the past few years, and we have gained their permission to join their forthcoming activity, with us sponsoring food to the activity.
The project started amongst a group of friends that lives around Klang that discovered that there that the homeless people in klang have not been provided food after attending a similar activity organised in the KL area. So they came up with a routine to feed the homeless every saturday, giving whatever they can in terms of food and support. This group later call themselves Reach Out Klang and has been sourcing meals from whatever sponsors they can find. Leo Club of Sungai Buloh came in touch with them 2 years ago and initialy only offered snacks and bread during their visit. However, eventually, the club also sponsored the meals for the homeless on top of the snacks and breads that they usually provide.
The budget plan of this crowdfunding is to provide 100 pax of meal to the homeless. They food will be ordered from a trusted provider. Each meal consists of rice, a choice of meat and a choice of vegetables for the homeless. Each meal only cost Rm4, therefore, the budget plan is as so:
Rm 4 x 100 Pax = Rm 400.
We hereby , in advance, extend our gratitude to your generousity. Every Rm4 donated will leave one less person starving for the night.
Aside from financial challengest in providing for this long ongoing project, these are also some of the common concerns from the public.
1. Only Homeless People are Fed
Reach Out Klang has a feeding system whereby only people who are registered under their program, that are certified homeless are able to receive the food that the have prepared. We discovered that many would like to feed the homeless but are not sure who to feed, thus we offer a solution by providing a homeless validation system, with help from our partner, Reach Out Klang.
2. Safety Assured
The safety of our members are assured as we travel in big groups, alongside representatives from the Reach Out Klang organisation, as well as the Leo Club of Sungai Buloh, whom have been doing this activity for a few years and are aware of the risk involved.
3. Food Quality is Assured
The food that we are providing are supplied by trusted providers who have been catering for the Saturday Reach Out program for the past few years. Given that the food is quality-assured and not randomly ordered from new parties, we dismiss public concerns on the quality of the food that we are going to provide.
